Regarding Dutchess County Legislature Resolution #2011045 - Support of need to demolish . . . . . .

Feb. 14, 2011 Meeting, 7PM,  22 Market Street, Poughkeepsie, 6th Floor Leg. Chambers

Shame on Dutchess County
Shame on the County Executive
Shame on D P W

Shame for Ignoring our History
Shame for not having a County Historian
Shame for not having an Archive nor an Archivist
Shame for not having an active Records Management Advisory Board

Shame for not having the words Adaptive Reuse in your vocabulary.

Shame most of all for Benign Neglect .

"All of you must review our cultural heritage and rethink your stance as the future is waiting."

In November 2004 County Executive Steinhaus received a letter from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historical Preservation which informed him and thereby this County of the Historical Significance of the Dutchess County Poorhouse (now known as the Eastern Dutchess Government Center) site and also put him and this County on notice of funding opportunities to rehabilitate these Buildings.

Obviously the letter was ignored just as our history has been for nearly 20 years.

Again, "All of you must review our cultural heritage and rethink your stance as the future is waiting."

Benign Neglect is never a friend to history, and in this case it is not a friend to the taxpayer.
